Mix the four with 1/2 of the grated coconut .In a glass mix some salt withwater .. I made Chiratta Puttu with red rice, which is rich in iron, magnesium, calcium, zinc, dietary fibre and more. Place the puttu kutti on puttu kudam.
grind to slightly coarse powder when the rice is slightly wet. Put the small steel plate with holes (puttu chillu), inside the regular puttu kutti / chiratta puttu maker mould. Cover with the lid. Now add the puttu podi ( just loosely fill it with rice flour, do not press). To check the wetness/moistness of the puttu mix, just press the moistened/wet flour and see if they hold together (this is a tip given by tesschechy, my aunt).

It take it’s name from the specially designed vessel used to cook which has got the shape of a chiratta (Malayalam word for the shell which covers the coconut), hence the name ‘chiratta puttu’. Top with some more grated coconut, if you wish. Top with 1 tsp coconut.
