Homemade Idli Dosa Batter. What is Idli & Dosa? Dough is a commonly used word in household kitchens, and even in kitchens of restaurants where chefs make recipes using dough. Idli is one tiffin item that most Indians have grown up eating.

Note->>the idli and batter pictures below will have a grey tinge.That is because I use whole (black) urad dal to make idli batter and not the typical dehusked (white) urad dal. This same idli batter can be used to make dosa as well, however to make the perfect dosa batter which will make thin crispy dosas, add little water (say 1/4 cup for every 1 cup idli batter) to the idli batter to make it more dilute so you can nicely spread the dosa batter in the iron griddle or non stick pan to make delicious dosa. Based on the fillings we keep on dosas we can make a variety of dosas.

Though it is traditionally from South India, most North Indians make it too.
